Extra Credit Opportunities
Here are some of the extra credit opportunities that I talked about in class, along with some other options for you to choose from. They are due the last day of school - Thursday the 25th. Choose up to three extra credit options to complete.
1) Create a collage poster that has images and words that embody one of the Enlightenment Philosophes that we learned about from Chapter 6.2. The poster should be at least 2'x3' and will be covered in images that are relative and significant to the Philosoph you have chosen. Words can be displayed as well. When poster is complete, you will then write up a 1 page summary of how you collage is depicting the ideas and theories of your Philosoph. Be sure to cite the way they viewed man, and the ideal form of government (and any other relevant information they were responsible for). (worth up to 10 points)
2) Create a French Revolution poster that depicts one or more of the main events of the French Revolution. Make it visual and fun. You can choose something like the Guillotine, Great Terror, Robespierre, etc. The poster should glamorize and/or demonize the situation, person, or event. When you turn it in you need to also turn in a 1 page summary of the importance of what you depicted. (worth up to 10 points)
3) Visit the Museum of Tolerance (up to 10 points) - Save the ticket stub, take a photo of yourself in the museum, and write a reflection. Reflection needs to be typed (12 point font, times new roman, 1" margins), and a minimum of one page. Focus on the parts of the museum that you connected with the most. What stood out to you? Why? What did you learn? What did you find to be the most interesting? What emotions did you come away with?

4) Visit the USS Iowa in Long Beach (up to 10 points) - Check Groupon for daily coupons. Go to the ship and take a tour. Save ticket, take a picture on the ship and then write a reflection. Write what you learned while on the tour, as well as parts of the tour that you liked the most. Be sure to discuss the military action that the USS IOWA has seen. Reflection must be at least one page, and follow same guidelines as above in #1.
5) Create a detailed Cold War era timeline (up to 15 points) - You will create a timeline that chronicles the important events of the cold war. You will need to list at a minimum 25 events that span the time from the end of WWII up to the fall of the Soviet Union. Each event should be accompanied with an image and a detailed account of why the event was significant. Each events description should be at least a paragraph long. Make sure this is quality work that is reflective of a desire to get a good grade. Originality and creatiivity is encouraged and rewarded. Please ask me any questions should you need further clarification.
6) Write an investigative research paper about one of the topics of interest to you listed below. Your paper will be 2.5 to 4 pages long. It will be typed in 12 point font, MLA format with a work cited attached. You will add attached pages for any illustrations, pictures or charts that help support your research/topic. Here are your topic, all pertain to the Cold War and should state how each developed or was used during the Cold War by either or both sides:
Spying
Spying technology
Space race
Weapons development - you can choose one or many types to focus on
NASA
Airplane development
People to reserach: Fidel Castro, Nikita Krushchev, Ronald Reagan, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, ask me if you have others in mind
U2 Spy plane
Suez Crisis
Latin America Communist expansion
Cuban Missile Crisis
Star Wars
Nuclear Proliferation
Life changed due to nuclear weapons in America
Propaganda
* If there is something else that I have not mentioned let me know. I am open to allow you to research something you are interested in so long as it relates to the Cold War.
